Summary

A flaked flint tranchet axehead of probable Early Neolithic, rather than Mesolithic date, found on arable land in 1987. Metal-detecting between 2010 and 2013 recovered a Late Saxon pottery sherd.

Full description

July 1987. Stray Find. [1].
Flint tranchet axe (15.5 cm long) found on arable land. Well flaked with no cortex. Stained brown over white patination. Fresh condition otherwise. This discovery was reported in (S1).

Flint axehead found further southeast than previously recorded, at TF9980 1060.

Object resubmitted for further examination. Identified by P. Robins (NCM) as probably an Early Neolithic (rather than Mesolithic) tranchet axe. Photographed. See description in file.
