Summary

Metal-detecting and fieldwalking between 1995 and 2018 recovered ?Mesolithic/Neolithic, Neolithic, ?Bronze Age and undatable prehistoric worked flints; Roman, Late Saxon, medieval and post-medieval pottery sherds; Roman, Late Saxon and medieval coins; a post-medieval token; undatable iron slag and Roman to post-medieval metal objects. The metal finds include a Roman brooch, finger ring and probable furniture knob; an Early Saxon strap end and brooch; a Middle/Late Saxon disc brooch; Late Saxon strap ends, bridle bit, harness fitting and brooches; a Late Saxon Viking trefoil brooch; medieval dress accessories and hasp and a post-medieval strap link and buckle.
At some time in 2014 or 2015 unstratified Late Saxon and medieval pottery sherds were recovered from the spoil of a linear feature that had previously been excavated during work on a pipeline.

1986 to 1987. Surface finds [1].
12 Roman greyware sherds.
Thetford type, 12 bowl rims, 120 jar rims, 2 rouletted bodysherds.
3.225Kg base and body sherds predominantly Thetford type but includes some medieval unglazed (not counted).
Thetford type includes some Grimston Thetford as well as oddly fired sherds that could be rejects from pot production.
36 medieval unglazed rims,
121 Grimston including two face jug arms
38 post medieval glazed red earthenware, stoneware, black glazed, also china up to 19th/20th century.

Dolphin brooch. Upper bow and one wing only. Sprung. Worn decoration along bow. Mid 1st century.
Identified by D. Gurney (NLA).
Very interesting Early Saxon strap end (?reused as mount) with animal head (as in cruciform brooch). Pierced in 'flange' at base. Expanded wedge shaped flange has stamped annulets. To be photographed.
Middle Saxon/Late Saxon disc brooch 9th century, with backward turning animal and billeted border. Broken single pin lug parallel with edge and broken catch plate. To be photographed.
3 armed harness pendant attachment fitting with H shaped folded suspension lug. Pierced lobed terminals. Traces of gilding.

Roman finger ring, punched dots on shoulders, plain worn bezel (very worn animal heads).
Early Saxon cruciform brooch foot, animal head, transverse mouldings, catchplate.
Late Saxon 10th century Viking trefoil brooch arm, leaf ornament scalloped edge, broken lug on reverse.
Late Saxon 11th century Viking Urnes style openwork mount fragment.
Late Saxon Winchester style openwork strap end (base missing), 2 rivets. Central motif of possible human figure in foliage.
2 medieval ring brooches; moulded pin rest, 3 transverse grooves and lobed ends; pin with square moulded collar.
Medieval stirrup shaped hasp, projecting shank at base and moulded knob at top, belt fitting.
