Summary

Fieldwalking in 1986 by the Fenland Survey recovered a small number of medieval pottery sherds scattered across this area, as well as noting the presence of a concentration of Late Saxon and medieval pottery, bone and shell on the route of a possible extinct watercourse.

Full description

19 March 1986. Fenland Survey fieldwalking. On weathered ploughsoil. (S1). East of Northgate Cottages.
Context 1 = general scatter medieval sherds. TSC DR.
Context 2 at 5528 2080. Concentration of Late Saxon and medieval pottery sparse to moderate, ditto bone and sparse shell on roddon (extinct watercourse) system. Post medieval material abundant on west side field 60m north to south x 36m east to west at 3.9m OD. TSC 43.
