Full description
1943. Early Saxon inhumation with iron spearhead found during digging of deep trench for water pipes.
Skeleton had head to east and was 0.9m to 1.2m (3 to 4 feet) from surface.
Part of skeleton removed by RAF personnel; bones not kept.
Rusty hilt of sword or dagger also alleged to have been found but lost.
Late Major Philip Hammond also alleged that iron sword was found and broken across foremans knee.
