Summary

Metal detecting here in 1984 and 1993 recovered a range of multi period metal objects. Finds of note included a medieval seal matrix with the crowned initials DI, a medieval shield-shaped harness pendant with red enamelling and part of a post medieval candle snuffer.

Full description

June 1984. Found in fieldwalking with metal detector.
Mid-late 4th century bronze coin with hole in centre.
Base sherd ?Thetford type ware.
Medieval sherds.
?14th century seal matrix - crowned initials DI with leafy branches surrounding.
Early post medieval complete bronze buckle, and half of similar.
Kiln bar, date unknown.
Finds held by NCM, formerly by member of the public [1] who retains coin and metalwork.
Identifications by S. Margeson (NCM) and A. Gregory (NAU).

1993. Metal detector finds.
Medieval harness pendant, shield-shaped, with red enamel ground and two crossed bands (saltine) in low relief with 'charges' on them (sort of trefoils). Suspension loop broken.
Post medieval conical object ?ferrule for end of a handle, with embossed decoration 19th century? or candle snuffer?
