Summary

A small medieval moated site. Very little can be seen today in the way of earthworks, but fieldwalking has recovered quantities of medieval pottery fragments.

Full description

March 1983. North of lane to Willow Farm.
Rectangular moated site in pasture, very small. Disturbed by pit on island.
A. Rogerson (NAU), March 1983.

Island of moat walked in good conditions on three seasons but no finds made.
However in 1986 just south of island were found the following:
Context 1.
Ten glazed Grimston.
Thirteen medieval unglazed.
Two glazed red earthenware.
Two post medieval stonewares.
All found close together.

Context 2. Scatter of seven glazed Grimston.
Five medieval unglazed.
Very large lava fragment.
One fragment medieval brick.
Identified by A. Rogerson (NAU), 22 May 1986.

January 2003.
The only feature which remains in pasture, west of Willow Farm is a small pond, with old willow and dead wood in it. There are no obvious earthworks to suggest a moated site.
