Mentioned in Domesday according to Blomfield as being located only in the Hundred and held by Robert Earl of Morton.
No references afterwards.
G. Pooley states that the Earls of Clare took their name from this, and not Clare in Suffolk.
He believes it was washed away by the sea, but evidence?
