Summary

In 1982 a number of Saxon, medieval and post medieval pottery sherds were recovered from a freshly ploughed field at this location. Types identified included Saxon Thetford Ware, medieval gleen-glazed Grimston Ware and post medieval lead-glazed wares.

Full description

September 1982. East and southeast of churchyard. Freshly ploughed old meadow which had an uneven surface (earthworks?). Produced material from marked area. Found on potato harvester.
Ten Thetford-type ware sherds.
Three medieval sherds including green glazed jug base.
Quantity of post medieval sherds including lead glazed thumb impressed rim.
Identified by P. Wade-Martins (NAU) October 1982.

W. Milligan (NCM) says only nine Thetford (eight from same pot). Eight medieval sherds in late medieval/transitional ware. All post medieval is lead-glazed except one stoneware.

Further finds of glazed post medieval.
Unglazed medieval sherds (one with wavy rim).
Tile with patch of glaze.
Tile identified as Flemish by P. Drury.
