Full description
Bank, in wood.
From north, this appears as a curving bank about 1m high and about 200m long. Defending or enclosing the summit of the hill. But from the summit it seems as if this is an illusion caused by the natural contour of the hill, with only a short length of bank at the east end. The old plantation shown here on (S1) seems to respect this bank.
National Trust spokeman believes it to be a medieval deer park boundary, but there seems little evidence for this.
If it really is a bank it could be older.
