Summary

A medieval moated site, destroyed in about 1977, though slight traces of it can still be seen on the ground. Fieldwalking since 1981 has recovered medieval pottery fragments and building material.

Full description

Moated site.
Destroyed in about 1977, now survives as rectangular 'low' around slight mound.
North side former field boundary. West side a stream. East side still a field boundary but with a new dyke.

1981.
On ploughed surface.
Medieval coarse ware, Grimston-type glazed and late medieval glazed.
Lava querns.
Fragment of brick with moulded teardrop decoration.

Two bodysherds Thetford type jar found on surface.

1986.
More medieval glazed and unglazed.
One late medieval stoneware.
Grimston face jug nose.
Also, immediately outside south arm, large bodysherd Thetford type thumbed storage jar.

January 1997. Fieldwalking.
Seven late medieval/Transitional, three Glazed Grimston, one medieval unglazed, two lava quern fragments including one with hole in one flat face and one with adherent mortar.
One piece of brick, vitrified, late medieval/early post medieval.
One large piece of mortar with one smoothed face (building material not vessel).
Burnt flint, animal bone, oyster and whelk shells.
