Summary

Fieldwalking and metal detecting here in 1980 recovered a variety of objects including prehistoric flint flakes and a broken leaf arrowhead, a silver penny of Edward III (NHER 1344-51) and a medieval or post medieval bronze belt mount. Sherds of Roman, medieval and post medieval pottery were also retrieved at the same time.

Full description

1980. Surface finds, found in fieldwalking.
Four flint flakes, one broken leaf arrowhead.
Three Roman sherds: one Samian rim, one colour-coated ware base, one greyware sherd.
Identified by W. Milligan (NCM) 11 October 1980.

Also: four medieval sherds (two rims, one Grimston green glazed, one sherd).
Silver Edward III halfpenny, London mint, 3rd coinage? 1344-51.
Bronze belt mount, two spikes on reverse for attachment, reversed bar of 'N' (sketch NCM). Medieval or post medieval?
Post medieval sherds including white stoneware, German stoneware, Staffordshire slip combware, lead glazed earthenware slip and two lead glazed earthenware lid knobs.
Also an unidentified bronze coin.
