Full description

Lime kilns.
Three kilns south of road opposite Irmingland Hall.
One has its chutes narrowed, another is atrociously built.
Information from Norfolk Industrial Archaeology Society.
E. Rose (NAU) 31 October 1980.

PROTECTED BAT SITE. See letter (S1) in file.
E. Rose (NLA) 22 February 1991

1992.
All three still in good condition, except for a hole in one, and undermining by rabbits. One kiln has a lime plaster skim on the inside.
Information from member of the public [1].
See (S2).

This site is noted in White's Directory 1854 (S3) and in Kelly's from 1892 to 1875 (S4) and it is marked on 25ins O.S. maps 1905 (S5). However its shape on these maps is the same as it is today, so it is likely that chalk extraction stopped here before this map was made.
