Full description

House opposite church, now Tollgate Cottage.

1980. Norwich Survey.
Timber framed one and a half storied ?17th century cottage.
See (S1), which includes photocopies of photos of internal features.
T.E. Miller (NLA) 14 December 2005.

Autumn 1980.
Visited by A. Carter and described afterwards to E. Rose (NAU) as a 15th century house with decorative work and upper floor resting on brackets integrally carved with main posts. Therefore upper floor original. However informant (SNDC) disagreed as brackets resembled those at Green Farm, Saxlingham Nethergate, and thus should be 16th/17th. He thought there might be traces the upper floor was an insertion. (S2) describes as 16th century house with inserted 17th century floor. One surviving queenpost truss, inserted gable end chimneystack.
E. Rose (NAU) 29 September 1983.

Final notes by A. Carter deposited at NAU 1986, differ from his verbal conclusions.
See file.
E. Rose (NAU) 4 July 1986.
