Summary

This is the site of the original chapel that gave the hamlet its name. It was founded in 1717 and was superceded in 1829 by the present chapel to the south (NHER 17018). The site is currently overgrown, but a row of gravestones remains along the boundary to the south.

Full description

Site of original chapel that gave hamlet its name.
Founded in 1717, superceded in 1829 by present chapel to south. Site is overgrown but row of gravestones remains along boundary on south.

Baptist Chapel which was formed in 1717 by a division from the Baptist church in Smallburgh and then later adopted Particular Baptist views. This chapel was later enlarged to accommodate a congregation of 500.
