Summary

This is the site of Kipton Ash Fairstead, a place where large cattle and sheep fairs were held from the late medieval period to the 19th century. During 1972-80 a number of small finds were recovered from this field including oyster shells, post medieval coins and Neolithic flint scrapers. Metal-detecting in recovered prehistoric worked flints; Roman, medieval and post-medieval coins and a Roman brooch and seal box.

Full description

Site of Kipton Ash Fairstead.
Large cattle fairs held in late medieval to 19th century when ruined by outbreaks of disease.

Pre 1980.
Informant [1] found many oyster shells, post medieval coins on this field forming a salient in the parish boundary which is noted by local tradition as the fairstead.
