Full description

28 July 1977. NAU air photography.
Cropmark of ring ditch approximately 35m diameter.
D. Edwards (NAU), 29 April 1980.

October 2007. Geophysical Survey.
Geophysical survey of an area to be developed (NHER 50596) revealed several anomalies likely of archaeological origin. Five circular ditches were identified, one of which corresponds with this ring ditch. A negative anomaly in the interior of the ring ditch may indicate former banks.
Information from (S1).
H. Hamilton (NLA), 14 February 2008.

January 2008. Evaluation in advance of proposed extraction.
Trench 3 was located to investigate this ring ditch which was visible on aerial photographs and appeared as a geophysical anomaly (see above). The ditch was approximately 3m wide and 0.7m deep, with gently sloping sides and a slightly concave base. A soil sample from the primary fill of the ditch contained only very sparse flecks of charcoal. Later deposits contained a single sherd of Roman pottery and a Late Saxon copper alloy strap end.
Information from (S2).
A. Cattermole (NLA), 29 May 2008.
