Name:Roman refuse pits and multi period finds

Summary

Ploughing here in 1952 unearthed Roman refuse pits filled with contemporary pottery sherds, roof tiles and shells. Metal detecting in the same area from 1992-2002 recovered numerous finds including two Neolithic flint scrapers, part of a Roman military belt mount and a fragment of a Saxon cruciform brooch. Further metal detecting in 2008 recovered three Roman coins.

Full description

1586September 1952. Church Farm north of Glebe Belt (near Icknield Way) ploughed 41m (16in) deep.
Roman refuse pits with pottery, bone pin, two roof tiles, and shells, samian ware.
Finds held by NCM.
In (S1) called Heacham in error.
E. Rose (NAU/NLA).
