Name:Late Bronze Age ring and medieval pottery

Summary

A Late Bronze Age ring, made of copper alloy, was found by a metal detectorist in 1999. The function of the ring is unknown although it may have been used as a suspension ring. The ring was made in southeast England or northern France. A fragment of medieval pottery has also been found during fieldwalking.

Full description

November 1979. On surface of sugarbeet field.
Found in fieldwalking.
Small sherd of medieval pottery.
Annabell Lawson (NCM) November 1979.

Feb/March 1998. Metal detecting in central area of previous find.
A.E. West (NCM) identified a possible Late Bronze Age ring, made in southeast England or Northern France (900 to 800 BC) weighing 8.54g.
Not a finger ring. For suspension?
Neatly made with central groove running around outside of D shape section.
