Summary

In 1905 a fragmentary prehistoric adze was found "near river" in Watlington. This has now been identified as the cutting end of a Mesolithic tranchet adze.

1905. Stray Find.
Found "near river", Watlington:
1 prehistoric fragmentary flaked flint axehead. Donated to Norwich Castle Museum by H. C. Peacock in 1933 (NWHCM : 1933.35.7). Information from museum records.
Although listed by F. Healy in (S1) as potentially Neolithic adze, this object was examined by R. Jacobi and identified as a Mesolithic tranchet adze. See description in (S2).
