Summary

An 18th or 19th century brick and flint building on the quayside. The building was probably used for storing coal and other goods. The barn was used as a location for the BBC adaptation of Great Expectations filmed in 1998.

Inter-tidal survey (Environmental Zone 7), Context 1034:
A building located on the quayside, north of Thornham village, was recorded. It measured 12m by 7m and was built out of red brick (largely handmade), chalk blocks and flint. It was probably used for storing shipped goods, including coal, before further transport by road.
