Summary

Two pieces of a Late Saxon storage jar, medieval pottery fragments, a lead token and iron buckle and a post-medieval thimble, lead plaque, spur fragment and coins were found on the surface of a field in 1977.

Full description

1977. On field surface.
Boy bishop lead token, mitre obverse, and ?medieval iron buckle.
Quantities of pottery, not seen.
Also post medieval bronze spur-rowel, thimble, and lead plaque 9.5cm square with incised motifs in small rectangle.
2 body sherds Thetford Ware storage jar.

28 sherds of medieval pottery were recorded by HES, presumably those not seen originally as detailed above.

February 2013.
Digital photographs of the finds recovered in 1977 and a report on the lead plaque, provided by the finder, were added to the file.
An object described as a ‘salt cellar’ was found ‘in a nearby pond’ and the other artefacts were from 12504 or nearby. These artefacts are currently in the care of the West Dereham Heritage Group.
