Summary
In 1773 two Roman fibulae were found near to the Coppygate. The Coppygate was a sort of tollgate leading into Wayland Wood and was situated at the end of the now removed Wood Lane.

Full description
1773. Found near the gate of Watton Coppy.
Two Roman fibulae.
British Museum (PRBA) 46 5-18 42,43 (presented to British Museum in 1846 but objects cannot now be traced as ink has come off these early accessions - E. Rose (NAU) 1974).
Informants [1] and [2], Watton historians, state that this refers to the Coppygate which was a sort of tollgate leading into Wayland Wood at the end of the now removed Wood Lane at above grid reference.
The small north projection of the wood here was known as the Nab.
