Summary

Fieldwalking in the 1970s and 1980s recovered a variety of objects including a Neolithic chisel and arrowhead, and Roman, medieval and post medieval pottery fragments. Three small test pits were excavated in this field in 1998, but no archaeological finds or features were found.

Full description

1975. Fieldwalking.
Scatters of flints in Fields 22, 38 and 39 including polished flint 'chisel' (found at [1]).
Information from (S1) and (S2).
These finds were donated to the Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 1994.192.AS8364).

The Neolithic worked flints were examined by F. Healy and listed in (S3) as comprising flakes, retouched flakes, cores, blades, scrapers, a borer, a fragment of an end-polished chisel, and a fragment of a leaf-shaped arrowhead. See drawings (S4)/(S5), (S6), (S7)/(S8), several of which are reproduced in (S3).

Other objects recovered at this location included Roman, medieval and post-medieval pottery, fragments of lava quern and an undated buckle.

Flint flint scraper.

Three boreholes were excavated archaeologically by NAU.
No archaeological finds or features were identified.
