Wind mill.
Brick tower, blackwashed, of tower mill, splayed at base. Now attached to old people's home.
E. Rose (NAU), 21 March 1979.

Marked on (S1), then a post mill. Present tower built in 1814 beside it. Last used by wind 1929. information from [1].
E. Rose (NAU), 4 February 1982.

The post mill was burnt down by friction of the gudgeon (yet again) and totally destroyed (see (S2)) quoted in [2]'s dissertation.
E. Rose (NAU), 29 November 1985.

However [1] replies that an advertisement dated 1819 refers to both mills standing side by side. Perhaps the account of the fire was exaggerated.
See newspaper articles (S3), (S4) and (S5) in file.

Copy photograph of functioning mill (S6) in file.
E. Rose (NAU), 6 December 1985.

Copyhold: Gallows Hill.
Information from [2]. See unpublished document (S7).
A. Cattermole (NLA), 24 May 2005. Amended by A. Beckham (HES), 22 April 2021.
