Summary

A medieval moat exists at this location. As such it is one possible site for the pre 1694 Woodton Hall (along with NHER 10156 and 10207). The present building here dates to around 1800.

Full description

Moat.
Site of Woodton Hall pre 1694 when it was removed to site 10200.
East and north sides full of water to brim.
North side continues eastwards of east side for a few yards, as if there might have been another enclosure.
The central island shows traces of being raised.
A large pond to northwest may once have been connected.
The present Hall here is about 1800.
Visited by E. Rose (NAU) 27 September 1978.

September 2000. Visit.
Moats are about 4-5m wide. North arm about 32m long fringed with mature willow. East arm about 50m long masked by bramble and scrub. Interior supports fruit trees. Moat has never been dredged according to owner. Pond to northwest and moats water filled.

Telephone conversation with Planning Officer 2017
Planning Officer Lynn Armes from South Norfolk DC visited the site within the last few weeks in connection with CNF47491 and reported that moat had been cleaned out. Extent and nature of the cleaning out not clear
